HI -

I am currently seeing a psychiatrist who is prescribing concerta - he only does medication management, no therapy -- ( I am seeing a social worker for behavior modification)

The psychiatrist who is prescribing concerta only asks a few questions: how are you, everything OK at work? At home? Any questions for me? Concerns? Comments?

Hands me a prescription and I'm in & out of his office in 10 minutes -

I know ANY md can prescribe this medication - but the psychiatrist I'm seeing insists that only another psychiatrist SHOULD prescribe this medication and not a general MD - he seems to feel a general MD is not QUALIFIED in either ADHD and/or concerta.

IS adha and/or concerta so specialized as to warrant this kind of concern?

Thanks

Howard

Hello Howard
My son has ADHD and is on Aderall XR. When he was first Dx. I took him to a psychiatrist and after awhile it seems like the Dr didn't spend anytime with me or my son. To see how he is really doing.
So I went and talked to my family dr and now he is taking over his care for his ADHD and
We are doing much better by seeing our family dr. I worked for a Family practice for a while and we saw a lot of kids and adults who are ADHD/ADD the family dr is able to treat them.

May want to talk with your family dr sometime or even ask to talk with his nurse. Hope this helps
