I have been without heat or a/c off and on since dec.2007. they fix it it breaks again...feb. 8, 2008 they put in a portable a/c unit in my living room that I can roll all over the apt. mind you i have always paid on time and never complained about the recent episodes because they fixed them in a timely manner. i have been without central heat or a/c since friday. i have made phone calls to my leasing office questioning when I get my central a/c and heat back and the tell me today...that was saturday. i have 2 small kids (4 & 5) they live with me. all i wanted was to get my rent prorated for a week since the major problem started. they stated they don't pro-rate or do concessions... i am pissed off.....what can I do???? i called and emailed the property owners and also better business bureau.... now i have to wait for a response which could take days or weeks.

And that's all you can do - I would notify the property owners in writing by US mail (not email), Certified Mail - receipt requested - and demand the rent concession and then see what happens. Your local Housing Court/Housing Inspector often will step in and make something happen in your favor if you report this.

There is also always Small Claims Court. How many units have been without heat?

(You are a lot calmer than I would be!)

I have no Idea how many are going through this problem too... I got a reply from BBB and Housing people they are on the matter as we type.
