I am remodeling my basement and I need to move my shower drain for a 60"x32" tub shower enclosure. I know you need to center it at 16" but how far from the front of the shower wall do I need to move in for center that way. I guessed about 10" from a rough measurement. Is this correct?

OUCH! Be careful here.. ;)

Confirm drain is at 16 inches to center. Then be clear that you will be hooking up drain to a tub waste and overflow assembly OFF the tub. That puts the drain pipe coming up and out of the ptrap underground about 1.5 inches to center off the shower valve wall. I would also enter the pipe into area about 3 inches left or right of tub centerline... then use trap to roll into centerline of tub waste and overflow.

Do you have access to drain after you install tub.. You will need it.

This is involved... some connect trap underground BEFORE installing tubs... some install trap underground AFTER installing tub... so couple ways to do this job (all require a tub dapout ( a 14 or 15 inch boxout for tub waste access) I prefer to install trap after tub has been installed... takes maybe 5 minutes and I never miss my rough in or have to stress fittings.. but to each their own.

Also, if installing an acrylic or a fiberglass unit you will want to install the tub in a base of structolite gypsum or a modified thinset mortar (Ballengerb1 from this site uses this a lot and loves it! ). If you do this you will need to fill the tub with water overnight if using structolite or 4-5 days if using modified thinset... but may want to ask Ballengerb1 dry time as he uses this.

Funny story why I don't use Structolite. I hate drywall taping and it's the only job I sub out. I love ceramic tiling so I alwasys have tubs of modified thinset sitting around. It has an ahesive property which drywall compound lacks but they both work. Daniel, why not just measure from your old drain to the wall? I think you 10" rough guess is a bit off and close doesn't count when it comes to traps. If this were a 32X69 shower your job would be a lot easier. Follow MASS's lead.
