I have a back bathroom that will not give me hot water.. the cold works only in there.. and hot and cold work everywhere else. Have any clue what may be the problem?

A back bathroom.. huh? Tell us here... no hot water to sink and tub/shower... or just to sink.. Let us know as much as you can. Whirlpool.. Single handle valves? Old bathroom... new bathroom..

When did you lose hot water? Gradual? Overnight..

Hi--thanks... well we had freezing weather the past few nights.. it is in a mobile home --bedroom rear of house.. nothing new.. not real old... no hot water to tub or sink.cold water works in there though... and the hot and cold everywhere else.. was working yesterday afternoon..

It is my friends house and she has a heater underneath thawing if that may be the problem... but why just the hot... though I read hot freezes faster I can't imagine it would pick one over the other... just very odd.. thanks for responding... appreciate it..

I am afraid that I believe that you have frozen pipes. Why.. because hot water freezes before cold water.. I know sounds silly.. but it is a fact. Here, water that is heated loses oxygen and therefore when cools to cold water temps. Has less kinetic energy then cold water not previously heated... so freezes first.

You need to open hot water faucets, and begin to thaw pipes. Crawl under mobile home and see if anything obvious.

NOTE HERE: PIPES MAY BE FROZEN AND ACTUALLY BURST... YOU JUST DO NOT KNOW IT YET AS PIPES HAVE NOT THAWED!! HOPEFULLY NOT THE CASE, BUT MUST CHECK PIPES... CAN THAW VIA A HAIR DRYER TO START... OPEN ALL CABINETS WIDE OPEN FOR NOW... OR GET A SALAMANDER RUNNING UNDER THERE (KEEP SOMEONE WATCHING AT ALL TIMES).

Crawl under home and look around... can also use a torch to thaw pipes directly (please be careful if you do this)... key here is to HAVE OPEN WATER LINES SO WHEN PIPE THAWS WATER HAS SOMEWHERE TO GO.

In science, the Mpemba effect states that hot water can freeze before cold water under certain circumstances. I don't think your home meets those circumstances but all it takes is for the hot water pipe to be less well insulated. If you leta trickle of water run at night or during sub zero conditions the feezing will likely not happen. Tell you friend to beef up the insulation when it gets warm enough to work under the home. Those pipes can burst and then you will have a real mess on your hands.
