Daytime temperature setting on the thermostat is 68 degrees but the thermostat will always go to 69 degrees before shutting off. The problem is when the thermostat gets to the set temperature of 68, the auxiliary heat will come on to reach 69 degrees - even when it is 50 degrees outside. Why won't the thermostat cut off when it reaches the set temperature and not use the auxiliary heat? If I set the temperature lower, it does the same thing! We are wondering if we should replace this thermostat?

Thank you for your help.

Toss the junk Hunter and get a good Honeywell thermostat.

I have the same problem with this thermostat. It will kick on the Aux heat until it gets one degree higher than what I have programmed. I also think it kicks on the Aux heat if it hasn't reached a certain parameter within 15 minutes of kicking on. I was shocked when I got my last month's electric bill. YIKES!! $159 more than the previous month. I don't think that's a savings of 33%.

I think I'm going to change it out with a Honeywell. I hope I don't have the same issue with the Honeywell RTH7400D.
