I bought a honeywell rth6300b programmable thermostat and it has connections g,w,y,r,rc with a jumper between the r and rc. My old thermostat had a c,r,w2,g,e,o,y wires can I even hook this up or do I need to get a different thermostat. Thanks in advance for any help I read several entry's prior to getting it and it seemed simple I guess I should have looked at the old one first??

You need to get a heatpump thermostat, one stage cooling two stage heating. You have a heat/cool only thermostat it can't be used with a heatpump.

Thanks I'll return it and get what I need. Will all these wies be represented on the heat pump thermostat? And thanks for the help.

I am not suggesting you buy a thermostat from this site

But just look at models available for reference

Heat Pump & Multi-Stage Thermostats

Honeywell Thermostat: Full Programmable honeywell thermostat line (http://www.honeywell-thermostat.com/thermostat.html)

Do you have a jumper from rh to rc? How do you have it wired?
