I have a 2 pole double throw breaker. Each side reads 30. Is the breaker 30 amps or it the breaker 60 amps? Thanks.:confused:

That 30A of 240 V coming from two 120 VAC legs that are 180 deg out of phase, thus each leg must be fused at 30 A and they will both break at the same time due to the mechanical connection.

This out of phasing is because the primary is single phase and the secondary is center-tapped. This creates two out of phase voltages, but it is single phase power.

Thanks for the response. I understand that each side is 30 amps. Is the breaker referred to as a 30 amp breaker or a 60 amp breaker?

A 30 Amp/ 2 Pole Breaker @240 Volts
