I am filling up this nursing application. I want to know what should I put in the career aspirations.

Well, why do you want to be a nurse? What kind of nurse do you want to be? Labor and Delivery? Psychiatric? Cardiac? Medical Surgical?

Do you want to go into management or do you want to work on the floor?

I want to work on the floor.

Okay, why do you want to work on the floor? Now, remember NOT to say that you are "a people person" or that you "want to help people." Those are all too common on nursing applications.

What is it that makes you want to be a nurse. You have to use introspection when filling out this portion of the application and look deep inside yourself as to why you chose this profession.

Can you give me an example

Sure, but when I had to do mine, mine was verbal in an interview setting, not an application.

So, when asked why I wanted to be in the nursing profession I told my advisor that I had a lot of medical knowledge that I had learned on my own, as I had always been interested in the medical field. I had worked in doctor's offices and in a law firm that specialized in medical-malpractice. I felt that it was finally time to take my medical knowledge and experience to another level and learn it in an academic setting so that I could finally put my knowledge to use.

Excellent example, J, and one that speaks from your heart. That is where you need to look, tonpups, in your heart to decide your nursing aspirations. Are you ready for the multiple shifts, working overtime, working short shifted, working holidays and weekends, keeping up with your academic credentials, etc.

Emotionally, how are you prepared? What is special about you that will lend to your nursing career? You, as a nurse, will be seeing things that will break your heart and make you go home and thank the Lord for everything you have. You will also see great things that are nothing short of being called
A miracle. Patients and their families will ask you some really tough questions. So will the doctors and other medical professionals. That is why I ask you, what is inside of you?
