For some reason I can't get Window Media Play11 to open. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it. I've made sure that I have the proper codec. But I can't seem to get Window Media Player to open. My operating system is Windows XP for Home, service pack 2. My computer is a Dell Dimension 2350 with 80 gig hard drive, Pentium 4 processor running at 2.2 gigahertz

Try doing an update on your Windows OP system on their website. I just downloaded a bunch of updates for Windows XP.

What happens when you try to run a file that would usually use WMP
If ;you get an error, what does it say or is there a number error
Did this just start happening unannounced
Has anything been installed since you last used the player

I don't get an error message. Nothing happens. When I think about it, this has been going for quite a while. I got an email with a wmv file attached some ago and was not able to open it. I can right on a wmv file and chose to open it with either Real Player or DivX, but I cannot get Windows Media Player to open.

There is a web site that uses an embedded wmv format and I can't view the files because there is no right click option.

The only thing I could suggest at this point is get get All the codecs for XP
Here is a link for codecs that will play most if not all video and audio files and formats
It can't hurt anything by having these, they are well known and working
If interested, just install with all recommended options

Free-Codecs.com : XP Codec Pack 2.3.4 is one of the most completed codec packs (http://www.free-codecs.com/XP_Codec_Pack_download.htm)
