At the local retail garden centers, I see many 3 prong plug-in outdoor fountains (line voltage) but the cords are visible due to how the displays are set up. At home in my own garden, I want to set up my fountain about 6 feet from the outdoor GFI outlet, in the middle of a planting bed, but I don't want the cord to show. My question is: Can I hide the cord underground a few inches without usuing conduit? To hide the cord in the dirt, do I need a fountain with a special type of cord or perhaps a low voltage fountain? My goal is to avoid digging a deep trench and having to use conduit. Thanks. LG

I cover my outlet with a fake fiberglass rock and cover the cord with mulch. Have not seen any low voltage pumps but the line voltage pumps are always grounded and its safe to cover their cord.
