I currently live in North Carolina and am divorced. We have one child together. Can I move out of state with my child without my ex's permission?

Depends on what's in the divorce decree and/or visitation schedule. If you have a court ordered visitation agreement in place and your moving will materially change that then you need the court's permission to move.
