My husband and I have a male Staffordshire Terrier and a female Chihuahua at home. I know this is an odd combination. My husband brought the Staff into the marriage and I brought the Chi. Both have been fixed. The dogs have lived under the same roof for about 5 years now. Normally the Staff is very laid back, he's about 10 yrs. Old. He's a lover and thinks he's a lap dog. Every once in awhile he starts acting very strange around certain people that visit our home. Not the same person every time and it's very random, sometimes a man sometimes a woman. He will fixate on them, won't leave their side. He will just start panting like he's all hot and bothered. He is right on their heels until they leave. Well, now he is doing this to my Chihuahua. Following her around every where, panting and constantly licking her. She barely weighs 5 pounds, and he weighs close to 70. I've caught him trying to move her around with his paw to get her in position. This is crazy. I know due to their size difference that it's impossible but I can see that he's trying real hard to figure this one out. My concern is that he may really hurt her trying. He absolutely loves her. When they play, if he gets too rough and she yelps he will back off immediately. But if he isn't in play mode, will he back off? Any idea what might be setting him off? Could this possibly be a behavior problem?

A friend of mine, had a large dog and a small dog. When playing one day, the dog pounced the smaller dog.. later that night the small dog died from internal damage. It is not to scare you, but I felt the need to let you know the dangers. I have 5 dogs, 2 large dogs, 3 small, and I never leave them unattended... the small ones go in crates when I leave. Best of luck to you!
