I have sound but I get a yellow excalamation sign in control panel.. The computer admits that the controller is there but cannot find the software to install it. I tried Dell's discs for drivers with no result. Dell will not talk to me because my warraty has expired. This is a dimension 8400 with 3.4 speed and 80 gb hard drive. Can anyone help me get rid of this yellow annoyance.

After a lot of patience and hair pulling I think I may have found the answer to the yellow exclamation in device manage. This is for Dell computers I have a 8400 dimension and there is integrated sound on the motherboard. Go to dell website and look for audio downloads. There is a download for ADI 1980 AC97 Codec. I downloaded and installed the above rebooted and the yellow exclamation is gone. I hope this works, at least it worked on my computer. Your choice and chance. The site does list the computers this applies to. Thanks for all your help
