My furnace will continue to run even though my set temp has been reached. For instance I set the thermostat at 68 and I get 75. I end up shutting the furnace off to avoid wasting oil and sweating to death. It does not run constantly but fires off and on.

Sounds like your thermostat is in need of replacement if it makes the furnace run past the setting of the thermostat.

If you have heat only just buy a simple two wire unit. I prefer Honeywell.

If you have a/c added then you will have more thermostat options.

Now if you are talking about the blower motor just staying on then it will be a different issue.
Your post is a bit confusing.

It's not the thermostat. I have already replaced that. It is happening in both zones of my house. The furnace continues to turn on even though the temp in my house is way over the set temp.

You did not say you have a Zone system just like you did not post the model and brand as requested in the in the sticky notes.

You did not state that you replaced the thermostat with a new and compatible one.

Now please answer these questions.

Is this a one thermostat setup controlling two zones?

Model number and brand of furnace?

Thermostat Brand and model number?

Old thermostat model and brand?

Brand and model of the zone system.

Is this a zoned forced air system or is this a zoned boiler with air coil fan system?

You have a more complex system since it is zoned.

I need all the information above to be able to help you.

It could be as simple as the cycle adjustment/heat anticipator setting but I need the info requested.
