View Full Version : Goodman AE 24-08 Blower/control issues?

Hi,
I have a Goodman AE 24-08 interior blower unit for my heat pump.
Recently the blower stopped turning on, while the outside unit would run. Checking in the panel, the motor was trying to kick over, but couldn't get started. If I turned the blower by hand, (to get it started), it would run fine.
I actually ended up upping the speed, and it starts now, but I'd like to actually fix the problem, since I feel like I'm living on borrowed time (sometimes the blower motor sounds slightly uneven, like it's building up then decreasing... )
This of course isn't helped by the fact that Goodman no longer makes units themselves, so it's hard to find info online...
From what I can tell, this line (AE) was supposed to be extra efficient, so it includes ($400+) controllers and blower motors, so I'd rather not go part hunting without knowing it's the right part.
The motor is original ('97), and I don't believe any other parts have been replaced either. BTW, the motor is a "GE BF06 22BT" (as seen on the motor)

Replace the indoor blower motor Capacitor. It is attached by two wires to the motor. Get the numbers off it and the MFD and voltage rate. Then take those numbers to a dealer/parts house. Replace the old with the new and you should be done with the repair.

Here's my problem, there's nothing attached by two wires to the motor.
The motor (see pictures) has a red/black pair that is run directly from the breaker on the front of the unit. The other wiring bundle runs from the motor to the circuit board pictured. None of the other components (all pictured) look at all what I would know as a capacitor...
There's a transformer, two fusible links(?), and a relay(?) along with the circuit board (from what I can decipher)...

I believe what you have is a DC voltage variable speed board controlled setup now that I see the pictures. You will probably spend more than 500.00 to 600.00 on parts. There is a expensive electronic tool that is made just to check/test those items.
It is a proven fact that you will not save energy with that setup because when it goes bad you will spend more than you saved for new parts.
I suggest calling a pro HVAC company that has the proper tools/meters etc to fix it correctly and at the minimum of expense for parts.
OR
Do the smart thing. Rip out all blower controls and motor.
Replace with a conventional 3 or 4 speed motor and wire it up.
Been there done that and it is a bunch cheaper.

I appreciate the suggestion, I'll probably rewire it, as that will still be cheaper than replacing what I have...

Now for anyone reading this: DO NOT USE GOODMAN. Mine is three months old and not working properly and Park and Sons or Emergency Heating and Repair (same guy) in Omaha Nebraska will not respond. Bad contractor. Bad furnace. If you need a new furnace, do not use Goodman under any circumstances.

((The probem in Goodman won't use dealers, they sell their crap to anyone))
The factory has a policy and they DO NOT sell to anyone.
The factory only sells to wholesale houses for the HVAC trade.
It is the wholesale house or the dealer that is selling to anyone.
Goodman is just as good as any other equipment if installed correctly.
The problem is many units are not installed correctly because Joe homeowner bought on off Ebay and installed it himself causing all the problems.
