I am very bored with my current position in the company I work for. About six months ago I asked to move out of my current department and be considered for any open positions in other departments. Department managers are allowed to choose who they want to have in their departments. Nothing is based on time you've been with the company. So therefore you have to be "chosen". There are lots of other employees transferring to other departments all the time. But I still never get "chosen". I am a very driven person and I enjoy working hard. I have three college degrees and feel that I could be a very valuable asset to the company in a different position. While some of the other positions in the company really require hard work, my current position doesn't. The HR person is also the direct supervisor of the department I'm trying to move out of. He told me it would take a little while to get someone to take over the position I was leaving. And I was expecting that. I didn't figure it would be an overnight thing. So I kept doing the job with a positive attitude because the HR person kept telling me it would be a few more weeks. But after hearing "a few more weeks" for 4-5 months and not seeing any effort being taken to find a replacement for me, I started to develop a bad attitude about it. I believe anyone would after that long without any cooperation from HR. Then I spoke with one of the managers directly about it myself and they told me the real problem was my attitude. None of the managers like my bad attitude about having to do work I didn't enjoy. Which was not the reason for my bad attitude at all. However, I don't believe the other managers knew why I had the bad attitude because I don't believe they were told exactly how long I've been waiting for this transfer. For some reason I guess asking for more work and trying to be a more valuable asset to the company is a bad thing. Asking for more work is seen as an unwillingness to do what's necessary to get the job done. All I was really trying to do is utilize all my skills instead of just one or two. I have three college degrees and am doing a job that basically amounts to data entry! So I was just wondering what others thought about this? Do you agree with the company or me? And if you happen to understand the company's point of view on this, please enlighten me. I don't understand the logic of asking for more challenging work being seen as a bad thing. Thanks for any input!
