I recently replaced my kenmore 70 series dryer's ignitor. Before it would glow orange and turn off. Now it glows orange and sparks an open flame. Is this normal?

Not sure I understand the question. The ignitor usually glows orange for a while, then you get a small pilot flame and some time later the main burner ignites.

Explain "sparks an open flame".
