Hi Everyone! I have had a root canal in my tooth #4 still felt weird at times, so I went to my dentist who referred me to the endodonitst again, which he told me to come back after my crown legthenging surgery. I did that, I had my CL surgery on Dec. 18th and just had my retreat redo root canal on the tooth on jan 21, the tooth is absolutley killing me now... I have a post op for the CL Surgery in two days which is good, but my gums feel weird now and my tooth is killing me, they said I didn't have to worry about any gum problems because they don't touch the gums... but when they put the temp crown back on they picked around to get the excess cement off... and it looks kind of weird now... a.nd also I feel like the crown is getting orange... does any of this make sense.
Oh and has anyone smoked cigs after the crown lenghteing surgery, I have a had a few socially and wondering if that will cause a problem I HOPE NOT, THIS HAS COST ME $3860 TO KEEP THIS TOOTH IN MY HEAD. I AM ABOUT READY TO PULL IT , sorry I sound so crazy!! any advice will be greatly appreciated! KANN:confused:

Smoking cigarettes after any kind of surgery is bad. After having a tooth pulled years ago I was smoking cigarettes. It took forever for my socket to properly heal. Having a tooth pulled a little while ago and no cigarettes (as I had quit 20 years ago) resulted in socket healing in record time.

If the tooth is killing/hurting you, then something is wrong. Go see your dentist ASAP. Having spent this kind of dough, you should get excellent care from their "prized patient".

Coffee and cigarette smoking is off limits for mouth surgeries, sorry. I'm surprised they didn't tell you that.

I've had the jaw bone lowering surgery and that is an ouch. Your gums will feel weird for a while. I've also had a root canal which wasn't successful on another tooth.

If you smoke, I'd imagine that cigarette smoke will discolor the plastic tempory crown. That I would not worry about.

Stop smoking, no coffee, no chocolate, no sugar and you'll heal faster.

If you need an antiseptic for the mouth use ST-37. ST 37 First Aid Antiseptic & Mouthwash (http://www.shopinprivate.com/st37fiaidanm.html)
Works like a champ.

Sorry for the "quit smoking" lecture, but it's for your own good.

The fact that you still have pain in that tooth may indicate that even after try number two, the root canal has still not been done properly.

I've had many root canals, and when they are done correctly, and completely, you no longer have pain in that tooth.

I'd get a second opinion if I had spent that kind of money and was still that uncomfortable.
