I will be removing a utility sink and cabinet and will not be replacing it. My question revolves around the drain coming out from the wall. The water lines have shut off valves which will remain in place in case the utility sink were to be needed at a later time so they are not the issue. Can I remove the trap and then cap the drain line line with a rubber cap that is held in place with a metal ring clamp or is something greater required. My fear is the possibility of sewer gas coming from this end after the trap is removed.

Hey Tux,

If you wish to keep the set-up where it can be used again and not cap it off permanently then the neoprene cap with a hose clamp is the way to go.
Good luck, Tom
