We have a Ruud model (-)PKA heat pump. It is currently 22 degrees outside, and our heat will only get to 65 degrees in the house, even with the thermostat set on 72. The fan never stops running and if you switch it to emergency heat the air is not warm that comes out of the ducts. I tried to get the fan to shut off by turning the thermostat off, but the fan is continuing to run. It has never done this before, and I am using other heaters in the house to keep it warm, and this seems to be the only way to get the thermostat to kick off. Is this something we can fix ourselves or is it something we need a service guy to come fix. Also is it going to be expensive?

Sounds like a safety might have tripped on the electric heat elements. Usually these cannot be reset and have to be replaced. If you know how to check this out the you can test this item or any other item in the furnace with a meter. The wiring diagram is usually on the blower door.

If you do not feel comfortable working on electric devices and do not have the proper tools call for professional service.
