How do you find out about and abandond house and how would you take control of the home?

You would buy the house from the legal owner.
You can find out who owns it by going to the court house and seeing whose name the deed is in. You can also go to the property tax office and find out who is getting the taxes mailed to them and their address. Some tax offices have this on line, others don't, you can call them and see if they offer this online or not.

All real estate is owned by someone. If the owner is not paying the mortgage then the bank forecloses ans they then own it. If the owner isn't paying his taxes, then the county will reclaim the property and sell it at a tax sale.

So a property that appears abandoned is still owned by someone. That someone is still paying the taxes otherwise the county would have taken it over. The property may be mortgage free or they are paying it otherwise the lender would have taken it over.

So you cannot "take control" of the property. You can only find out who owns it and buy it from them.
