Can a person with a felony get a insurance policy?

Yes they can. If the policy is a large amount they can question what sort of felony. Some life insurance companies do this and some don't. Just depends which company you choose. It's best to ask an independent life insurance agent which company he would recommend for your needs as he is affiliated with as many as 30 different major companies. The life insurance company is more worried about your physical health in the long run and your immediate family's health problems, i.e. cancer, heart problems, etc.

I've never seen the question on a policy application, assuming you are talking life insurance.

Now, will the compony do a background check or credit check and decide they don't want to insure you - entirely possible.

Actually yes, in larger policies they do a complete background check and a criminal history can either make your rates higher or cause it not to be issued. A lot will depend on when the crime happened, what the crime was.
