Special Inquiry

We are a small company with only 1 employee. For the 2006 tax year, we submitted the W-2 on the proper form, but handwritten. We were just notified that the employee's refund (he extended and filed in October 2007) has been held up because the W-2 was handwritten. I'm told I need to resubmit the document in a printed form. Is there a resource to produce W-2s online or some inexpensive print utility to do so? For 2006 tax year? Any help would be most appreciated.

There IS software that will produce W-2s.
Unfortunately, you may NEED to buy this software, because finding the multi-copy Form W-2 and W-3 transmittal form for 2006 may be near impossible.
Before you buy the software, call the local IRS office, explain what happened and ask them to send you a W-2 packet for 2006. They may still have some on file.
If so, then all you need to do is find a typewriter and type it out. Your local library should still typewriters available for public use.
You can do the 2007 W-2 while you are at it; ask the IRS office for the 2007 W-2 packet as well.

Thanks for such a rapid response! Your suggestions are very helpful. I am in somewhat of a time crunch, so purchasing the software may (unfortunately) be my best choice. Can you suggest any specific program or publisher? Or the right term on which to search the Internet? So far, I haven't found any options as I've looked.
Also, is this as simple as sending the employee a printed W-2? Do I need to resubmit the W-3? Is there some additional filing of some correction or change form needed as well?

I do not do W-2s anymore, and the few I did meant that I could not justify the cost of the software. I just bought a W-2 package at Office Depot and TYPED AWAY!
Do a Google search on "W-2 software". The hits will number in the thousands (I just did it in Yahoo sreach and go OVER ten pages worth of links).
There also seems to be an option for FREE W-2 software. I would check that out.
You need to resubmit the ENTIRE package, to include the W-3.
