I have a 7 year old Amana Furnace (80 SV)
Mod# GUIDO70CA30
S/N: 991120784
The furnace will try to start several times and then shut down. The fuses and switches are all OK. The LED on the control panel does not indicate any trouble codes except a flashing 1 indicating a several start attempts and subsequent lock out.
This unit has no pilot (ignitor) and no thermocouple to the gas valve. I believe the problem is the flame sensor. When I test the sensor with an ohmmeter it reads open. Heating the sensor with a torch makes no difference. I'd like to make sure before I start replacing parts. Outside temperatures are in single digits and I need to get this fixed.
Thanks

Here is the key to checking a flame sensor... with your meter set to check ohms / continuity... put one probe on the wire end and the other by the ceramic base where the sense electrode enters the ceramic... do you get a beep on your meter there? ( you should ) or the wire is broken. Then check the end of the sense electrode, you ONLY touch that part with your meter probe, your meter should beep ( don't rub your meter probe to get the meter to read continuity (beep), because a flame does not do that to read if there is a flame there) You can clean the sense probe with sand paper and re-test as above... it is always best to replace them, rather than clean them...

I retested the flame sensor per your instructions, cleaned it with sand paper and re-installed it. Furnace starts and runs normally now and house is warm and cozy. I'll get a new one and replace it as soon as possible. Thanks for your quick response.

I also had this same problem. I replaced the flame sensor and still have the same thing. If I turn the furnace off then back on it will work for about a day and then stop working and flash code 1. any ideas what to do next?
