Hello,

I am in the military and have California state taxes deducted due to my residency at the time of my enlistment. I am now stationed in Colorado and have owned a home here for the past 3 years. I have a second job in Colorado and of course have Colorado state taxes withheld. How do I file taxes in my situation?

Thank you,

Allan

Did you file for a homestead exemption on your home in Colorado?

If so, then you changed your state domicile from California to Colorado as a matter of law.

Happens all the time here in Georgia with the military who are stationed here. It usually results in them losing state residency in a non-tax state like Florida or Taxes.

If not, you need to file tax returns for BOTH California and Colorado.
