Hi, for the past few months I've been having trouble with my kitchen sink. It's a mobile home, and the kitchen sink doesn't drain into the main septic tank. Our landlord didn't connect the sink to the new tank but instead left it connected to the old septic tank. That surely wasn't a wise decision on his part.
Anyway, I thought you might need to know the whole story to help me figure out the problem.
It's a twin sink and the water from one side backs up and comes out the other sinks drain until the water level is even. I tried plunging it and I keep getting these very small pieces of brown and black slime that smell like rotting food. Once in a while this smell will come up through the drains themselves. Only water goes down the drain, all food and grease are taken care so nothing like that is going down the drain so I'm not sure what that could be.
Because it's a mobile home there is no regular vent, but a check vent. When I filled the sink(s) up with water, I pressed down on the check vent and the water went down quickly but then started to come out of the check vent. The vent itself will sometimes make sounds like a pig, gurgling and hissing. I've tried so many decloggers and nothing works. I've tried baking soda and vinegar, even salt, but nothing seems to work.
I was also thinking maybe the trailer needs to be leveled and is tipping towards the front keeping the drain water from flowing freely?
Thanks for any help!
