I am trying to replace an old thermostat. THe wires the I have coming from the wall connect to the old thermostat this way

Yellow to Y
Green to G
White to W
And the Red and Blue wire are connected to R


The problem is my new thermostat has the following connections

G
Y
W
Rc
Rh

I am okay with the g,y and w. Not sure about the blue and red. Please help. My husband does not think I can do this and wants to call an electrician. I want to prove him wrong.

You sound like a pretty smart lady and yes, I'm sure you can make the new thermostat work just fine. If the furnace was working fine with the connection as you showed it. Hook the red and blue to RH just like on the old unit with a jumper wire over to RC. I believe you will be able to thumb your noise at your husband with his thinking you need to call someone in.
