Cripes, good grief and Shazam!
I border on the obsessed with my internet security. I have Norton and do a fully system scan regularly every week. Then about two weeks ago, noted that Norton was having some sort of problem. I called and got help getting it uninstalled and immediately re-installed. No worries for 2 weeks, then 2 days ago came home to find the following message:
C:/Documents and Settings/Owner Acess Denied.

... and I can no longer get into my desktop!!

Not even sure if it has anything to do w/ Norton, but am gutted about this situation. Could it be something to do with "permissions"?

I'm on XP Home and have since run an internet scan w/ Norton that turned up nothing on my computer. Can anyone offer insight?
Anything is much appreciated!
Cheers,
Robin

Try making another admin account e.g. test - use
Start run control userpasswords2

Then logon to new account go to my computer-tools-folder options- view-scroll down too the bottom and unselect "use simple file sharing" then press OK then go to c:\documents and settings rightclick owner - security then add everyone full control press OK it should let you but some don't

My only issue is that w/ XP Home, I don't see "use simple file sharing". Does that make sense?

Someone else said this ges ago I forgot to add create the account then go to safemode. If it autologs on logoff and use test restart and it should work.

Hey, a huge cheers for the guidance here. I need the hand-holding. Can you tell me how to go to Safe Mode? Then what is my next step? If this saves my machine, I'm sending you beer.

Lol don't worry about the beer if it works

Turn your computer off completely turn it on then keep pressing F8 until a menu comes up then use the down rrow to select safe mode. Just safe mode not with command one.

Cheers again, and I'll let you know if it worked. I've been inquiring into this at work. Now to try it on my broken, confused beast of a machine-
