Hi I'm new here, just installed a ceiling fan in living room need to know about the elec. I have a living room and dinning room together. The dinning room already had a fan with lights. There are light switches in each room that control the light in the dinning room, there were no lights in livingroom other than lamps. My question is how do I wire both fans on the same switches that are already there? Can I just connect new fan and lights to old fan and lights in the attic.

If I understand your situation correctly you need to run your new fan wires over to the box above the other fan in the attic. Do not just run the white/black/blue alone, they should be in conduit or whatever cable is accetable by your building code.

You can. You will need to run 14/3 (provided it is a 15 amp circuit from the new fan, to either the old fan OR to the switches. Once you get there, tell us what wires you have and we can help you match them up. It might be as easy as color matching.

OK, there are two black wires that come out of the ceiling for the old fan. It has the white wire from the fan connected to one of them and the black wire and the blue wire for the lights connected to the other I guess the one with the blue and black is the hot side. If so can't I just run my wire to the other fan and use the same colors for the new one?

There are only two black wires feeding your old fan? No white or red wires at all? Can you switch the light and fan separately, I presume not.
Sounds like you'll only need 14/2 unless you want to add a second switch while you're up there.

Ceiling, this sounds like a poorly marked switch loop to me. What do you think?

My thought was, he has a black and white wire but the white wire has gotten dark with age. If it was a switch loop there would be more than two wires. But we'll see.

Well, I just matched colors from the old fan to the new one and every thing worked it's a old house that was built by the owner that used what he had not every color matches
