A friend of mine hit someone almost 2 years ago with his car. The guy came out of nowhere and ran right in front of the car. After he got hit, he jumped up and said "i'm ok" and left the scene. As far as they know, no police report was filed.

Now, almost 2 years later, they just got served with a lawyer's letter saying they are being sued for $800K. What is the statute of limitations on this, and can this plaintiff do this?

Statute of Limitations vary from state to state, it looks 2 years right across the board but some are 6. So not knowing which state you are please access this site to find out SettlementCentral.Com--Put The Settlement Award in YOUR Pocket NOT The Attorney's (http://www.settlementcentral.com). Don't pay any attention to the whole title, just access to look up your state.

The time starts exactly when the accident happened, so if you have no proof when this happened then you must rely on someone else's memory and I hope not the person who was hit because it looks like he is going for broke with the 800,000 claim.

This is a good case FOR WITNESES AND I HOPE HE HAS SOME!!

Did you report this to your insurance company? If you haven't, you need to report it immediately. They have lawyers to handle this.
