I recently purchased my first home, it is a town home with an unfinished rear walkout level basement. I would like to finish out the basement to include a laundry room, full bathroom and a living/recreation area with the possibility of a wet bar (all this will take time and I know that, as this initial plan might seem a little ambitious). The home was built in 1990 and has rough-ins for a half bath (toilet and shower). I was wondering how hard and if at all possible to add what it needed for a shower or tub. Also I would like to plan for the future and would like to add the drain for a wet par in the future. In insight as to how difficult converting the half bath rough-in into a full bath would be and if I would be able to add another drain for the wet bar in the future. Thank you for you time.

You will have to break up the floor and tap into the main to pick up your laundry and bar sink. They both will have to be vented. As a rule half baths are roughed in for a toilet and vanity. Are you sure you didn't mean a bathroom sink when you told me it was roughed for a toilet and shower? If the 2" pipe is near a wall then it's a lavatory rough in and you will be able to tie the shower drain to thelav drain and let it be wet vented by it. Cheers, Tom

My mistake, I did mean bathroom sink I don't know why I put shower. I would like to add a drain for a shower. The laundry is already plumed in the basement, so it I would just need to finish off a room where they are located. I've been reading up on where stuff gets plumed to and I am confused about a major fixture going past an un-vented minor fixture. Where would be the best place to tie into?

ALL fixtures that are trapped will have to be vented out the roof or revented back into a dry vent. The only exceptions are wet vented fixtures such as your new shower. What are your concerns? Tom

So if I just tie into the lav drain I should be OK?
