Hello my name is Margerette;
I have a question about my supervisor and coworkers.
I drive a school bus for lee county and I have been nominated for support person of the year. I am now one of the 4 finalist (out of over 4000 employees). The winner will be announced Wednesday. OK so here goes.
I have always had a very good working relationship with my supervisor. I do my job and he leaves me alone. We pass in the hall and he says goodmorning , we crack a joke or two and move on. Nothing close, no favoritism. I have a problem he gets it fixed etc.
Well, this pass month or so he has been anything less then supportive of this nomination. No encoragement,negative feelings, nonconstructive feedback, giving conflictive instructions, creating problems,
Seems like he is trying way hard not to show favoritism and even going out of his way to let other employees no when he thinks I have done something wrong. His secretary is slow in giving me updates and appointment dates. (interviews etc.) Even waited until the last possible min. to tell me about the newspaper coming to interview me. When I went up in front of the nominating committee she also gave me the last minute time and date to attend and where to go for this interview was so vague that if I wasn't an HR early I would have been late. Seems like they are dragging their feet as thou trying to make me lose. When they finally made the announcement about my nomination it was lame. No excitement or motivation. What do I do! If I win this I will be on TV and have to answer questions about my work place and I can say I am very bitter right now and don't want to put my foot in my mouth. Got any answers. Thanks.

Honey, why are you bitter? You don't have to be right now. This is wonderful that you are so close to winning! Don't let their negativity rub off on you. You just keep doing your job and be as cheerful and wonderful as you always are regardless of the outcome. The fact that you were nominated tells me that a lot of people think very highly of you. You may be reading something that is not here.

So keep your chin up high and if you do win, accept your winning graciously and thank everyone for their support (whether they actually tell you anything or not outloud) and how much you love your job. Good luck!

I second that. You are obviously a wonderful employee. They might just be preoccupied with other matters, maybe you are right about them not wanting to show favortism also. Just be you, keep doing what you are doing, and see where it goes. I hope you win, because you deserve to!
