Hi,

I didn't find this problem in a search and I'm hoping someone can help.

My gas furnace will come on when I turn the temperature up and it reaches the temperature fine. But after that, when the temperature drops, it does not come on again. For instance, I have it set to 65 degrees during the day and when I came home from work the house was 59 degrees. When I turned the wall thermostat up to 70 it came right on and warmed the house up again but after that it did not, even when the temperature was at 68. I had to manually turn it up again.

I do not know a lot about furnaces so I'm hoping for some suggestions.

Any help it appreciated.

Are you using a programmable thermostat or just a regular non-programmable?

I am using a programmable thermostat that I've been using for about 3 or 4 years now with no problems. Could that be the problem?

If you manually override a program by moving it over the set point it should maintain that higher setting. Just as a start I'd suggest new batteries in the sta if it has them and then reprogram the whole thing. Sounds like it is not sending the call for heat when you drop below the set point. Most stats wait for one or two degrees below set point before reacting.

Good idea. I replaced the batteries and will have to wait to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the suggestion.

Reprogram too or at least check it. Most loose their memory during battery swaps, some keep memory for a few minutes.

Mine seems to be pretty good about keeping the settings, even when I get the low battery indication. I'll probably have to wait until morning to know how it performed. BTW, it's a Lux 1500 if that matters.

Well when I got up this morning there was a 4 degree difference between what the temperature was set at and what it actually was so I guess the new batteries didn't make a difference. Maybe I just need a new thermostat?
