Dear experts
I came to USA on Aug 24 2005 on F1 visa, completed my masters and got onto OPT status starting April 1 2007 and started working for company "X" from April 26 2007 on OPT till sep 30 2007, and continued to work on H1B starting OCT 1st till date. My employer provided me 2 separate W2 forms, one for OPT work status and other for H1B work status. My question
1. do I need to file taxes separately for OPT and H1B? Or can I add the wages earned and taxes deducted from both W2's together and enter SS and MCR from one of the W2? If so what form do I fill out? 1040, 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ?
2. can I file my taxes online?
Thanks in advance

1) One tax return only (Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ).
2) No; Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ must be mailed.

Thank you Atlantataxexpert.
Can you please answer another question?
What do I fill in 1040n-ez form int the column "type of entry visa"? F-1 or H1b?
Thanks in advance

That is the visa you had when you FIRST entered the U.S.
Many initially come on a F-1 or J-1 visa, then convert to H-1 or H-1B.

Thanks again for your reply.
Could you also let me know if I need to attach 8843 form with 1040nr-ez?
Thanks in advance

You enclose the Form 8843 with the tax return in the same envelope.

Thank you Atlantataxexpert.
I have another question about filing state and city taxes. I am working in Ashland KY since April 26 2007 till date. Prior to that I was in state of OH.
Can you please let me know what forms do I use to file my state and city taxes? Please
I browsed through KY dept of revenue website (Kentucky: Department of Revenue - Current Year Individual Income Tax Forms (http://revenue.ky.gov/forms/curindfrms.htm))
But I am very confused as to which forms need to be used to file state and city taxes:confused:
Thank you for your patience

Your situation SCREAMS for using a tax professional, because you have to file the non-resident return (Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ) plus TWO part-year state returns (KY and OH).
Email me at the email address below to get the details.

For 2008, you are considered to be a resident alien, as you spent the entire year of 2008 on a H-1B visa.
So, yes, you can file Form 1040 online if you wish.
