I live in Southern California and last year I received a bill from a debt collector representing Verizon (Telephone Company), the bill says that they are collecting a
Debt of $150.00 from a phone line that I had back in 1994. I believe the actual company that I had the phone account with was GTE and at some point over the last 12 years Verizon took over GTE. The first time I had ever heard of this debt was last year, they have sent me 3 bills. I moved from the home that the phone bill was for in 1995 and I don't remember receiving any bills about this before I moved. Is there a statute of limitations on how long they can pursue this debt? At this point I am not even able to produce any proof of payment because the debt is so old. Please help me I am at a complete loss as to what to do. Any advise is really appreciated. Thank you.

Have you pulled your credit report as far back as you can to see how this bill was disposed of on the credit report?

Dispute the allege debt in writing, ask them to provide the contract you sign, ask them if the SOL has expired in writing,
