I occasionally get sore breasts before my period starts... This month though I just finished my period about a week ago... I had light spotting about 2 days after it finished it last for about 2 days and sore breasts followed it... It still hasn't let up and I have no idea why my body is acting funny... This has never happened to me before... I am on birth control but I have been on birth control since my son was born 2 1/2 years ago... and I was on birth control 3 years prior to finding out I was pregnant also... I did get pregnant on birth control but the doctor had switched me to a lower dosage pill... but baiscally my question is what could be causing sore swollen breasts a week post menstruation?

Very good question.
Have you tried a pregnancy test yet? If not, I would do so.
Breast tenderness, as you know, is more prevalent during the premenstrual period than the postmenstrual period.
If you did conceive on birth control pills before, it is possible that this method of birth control may not be for you.

No I haven't tried a pregnancy because like I said I had only finished my last period a week ago... is it even possible to pregnant a week after? And for it to be detected?

Are both breasts sore all over? Or is it one breast in a particular area? How old are you? Do you examine your breasts? Do you feel any new masses? Do you have any nipple discharges, or changes in the skin of your breasts? Has your birth control pill changed in name or dosage? Are you of the age to have mamograms? How much soda / coffee / caffeine do you consume?
These are all standard questions that a doctor will ask, better to know them beforehand.

Both breasts are sore to the touch... I am 22... They are the same only really tender and heavy I guess you would say... I switched from the patch to yas birth control about 3 months ago... and I don't drink soda and I might have a coffee once a month if that anymore

Just a guess , but it sounds like the change in birth control, please see your doctor if it does not go away, or gets more severe. Take care.
