My laptop computer is not able to connect to my Netgear router. My desk top computer is connected fine to the router. The laptop computer has connected with the Netgear router in the past. I have unplugged the modem and router and shut down the laptop and desk top several times with no success.

What Operating system are you using, first of all?

Here are a few suggestions:

Login to your netgear router and verify that wireless is enabled and if security is on, turn it off temporarily, along with the firewall.

Temporarily disable any anti-virus software on your PC

Temporarily disable windows firewall and/or antivirus firewall

Verify your laptop is getting signal from router, move antenna direction on router

Some laptops have button to turn off wireless broadcast, look and verify its on.

If you are using windows, try this

Go to Start... Run... Type in the box "CMD" without quotes
At the prompt, type ipconfig/release press ENTER (you will see all 0's for ip address)
Then at prompt, type ipconfig/renew press ENTER

If this doesn't work and you have Windows XP, make sure you have service pack 2 installed.

Another note, when you unplugged your cable modem, did you disconnect the coax cable or just the power? Try the coax along with the power.

... I could go on forever, let me know how that goes
