I'm going crazy & need to help my sick cats. My Dad just passed away & I don't have a lot of money. I have 2 - 13 year old cats who are sisters. The one has diabetes & was diagnosed about 3 years ago. She is my bad cat. She is big & bossy & cost me a lot of $ throughout her life (more than any other cat). I've taken her to vets & had all kinds of testing done but we can't get her levels under control. My next step is to pay more $ to try another type of insulin & needles which I don't have time or money to do right now. The biggest problems I'm having with her is she won't pee in the litter box even after I clean it. She pees all around it on paper & then drinks it. Why is she doing this & how bad is it for her. I give her fresh clean water in a clean bowl but she insists on drinking out of my glass. She drinks a lot of water & is hungry ALL the time.

My 2nd biggest (MOST IMPORTANT) problem is with her sister who is the good cat & I love her dearly. Since my Dad passed, she's all that comforts me. The week my Dad died I brought her back to the vet to look at an abscessed tooth that was pulled a couple of weeks earlier. It didn't heal & just kept bleeding & oozing. He had me put her on more antibiotics which didn't work & the week of Christmas he wanted to put her to sleep saying he thinks it's cancer. I refused as she still had so much life in her & I don't regret what I did as she still does. I spent a lot of $ on her as well (only for this situation) & had a 2nd opinion which included additional tests of her blood to make sure nothing else was wrong, which it showed she is healthy. The next step would be to do a chest X-ray & biopsy to confirm if it is a Tumor like they think. This would cost me around $700. Or more & then Chemo is additional. As much as I love her it sounds crazy to me. The sore in her mouth isn't getting better. It has disfigured 1 side of her face causing the 1 eye to be closed most of the time & her cheek to be puffed out & the eye to tear. The other side of her face is fine & if you didn't look at the bad side, you wouldn't know anything was wrong other than the blood that keeps coming out. I can't put her to sleep yet because she still eats, runs, sleeps on my chest etc... Any ideas what else I should do that won't break my bank? :(

1st of all I am not a vet or work in the medical field.
The only hint I can give you on the diabetic cat is to put shredded newspapers around the litter box, they should absorb the pee quicker, so hopefully she will not have time to drink it. There is also a noodle on the market called shiratki noodles and a smalll amount of those feed to a diabetic patients daily is supposed to help keep their blood level constant. It May be worth checking out and discussing with the vet. My hubby's aunt has a diabetic cats and she feeds her at set times each day to help keep her blood sugar level the same.

I wonder if your other girl does not have diabetes, because not healing is one of the symptoms. Has the vet checked her?

We have a few vet techs that get online maybe one will see your post and give you some better suggestions. Check back in.
