I bought a Hunter ceiling fan & light remote control kil and tried installing it on my Harbor Breeze ceiling fan. I've read a couple of the other questions, but couldn't find a solution to my problem.

I installed the remote kit as per the instructions and had one black wire labelled "light in" left. I turned on the power and the lights plus the fan work. I have 2 switches on the wall, one for each one. I can turn either of them off at the wall and/or by pulling on the cords at the fan as wired now. Where would this other wire go?

But when I try using the remote nothing happens. The dip switches are set to the same configuration. I can hear the receiver click when I press the off/on buttons for both the light or the fan. But nothing happens!

Now I noticed on the back of the remote kit that it states that it'll work on 1.0 amp fans and 300 watts lights. Could this be the problem? Or is it the one wire that isn't tied off?

You don't have it wired correctly. The receiver should have five wires total, a set of two and a set of three. Your ceiling should have two wires plus ground. Your fan should have three wires plus ground.

Tell us what color wires you have for each.

House (H) wiring - black, white & red
Fan (F) wiring - black, white, blue & green
Receiver (R) wiring - black (hot), white(neutral), white (common), black (light in), red (fan in)

I connected Hb to Fb and Rb(hot). Hw to Fw to Rw(neutral). Hr to Fblu to Rr(fan in). Fg to Rw(common). The Rb (light in) was left.

Connect house black OR red to remote hot (black). Cap off the other wire.
Connect house white to receiver neutral (white).
Connect fan black to receiver 'fan in' (black).
Connect fan blue to receiver 'light in' (red).
Connect fan white to receiver common (white).
Connect fan green to ground.

It worked! Only one prob was that the fan black goes to the "light in" red wire and the fan blue goes to the "fan in" black wire. When I hooked them up as you told me, the remote controls were backwards, so I switched the wires as to what I stated before.
