I am on F1 visa since Aug 2004. Now I am doing OPT and worked for three months. I need to file nonresident tax return. Which is the best software available?

Also is there any site where I can do my taxes free and e-file.

Hello

Form 1040NREZ
Form 8843
Form 843
Form W-7

These are the main NR forms. They are mostly self explanatory. But it makes sense to consult an NR tax consultant, to make sure the forms are filed right.

I would say Global Tax Services | Online Tax Software for Nonresident Aliens | 2006 Form 1040NR-EZ | Form W-7 (http://www.gtsec.com)

Hope this helps!

If you are filing a non-resident tax return (Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ), you cannot file electronically. The tax return MUST be mailed.

It says as much on GTS website that VTE references.

There are a number of websites that specialize in non-resident tax returns, but NONE of them are free.

Yes I agree , you cannot do efiling. The Tax software, just completes the form and lets you download and mail it.

Hope this helps!

Can't I install TurboTax or any other tax software on my laptop and use it. One of my friend who is a U.S. person uses TurboTax to do his 1040.

TurboTax is FINE for Form 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ.

You asked about the non-resident tax return, which is Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ.

TurboTax does NOT prepare these returns.
