Anyone use Diskeeper lite and if so have you noticed that after awhile it won't completely defrag your system. Mine seems to leave anywhere from 4 to 150 fragmented files. Any thoughts on how to correct this?

Have you tried running it in safe mode ?
Sometimes disc access while in normal mode can interfere with defragmentation.

Trying to defrag in safe mode does not work. I get a error message
"unable to connect to the diskeeper service in the selected machine

connecting to local diskeeper service"

And then when I click on OK there is a split second flash of a window
But its not on the screen long enough to see what it is. If I uninstall Diskeeper Lite and then run the standard defrag (in safe mode) it works and then reinstall Diskeeper lite It will then complete with 0 fragmented files. I just don't understand why Diskeeper lite will not completely defrag the drive or why it won't run in safe mode

HAve you tried any of the other Freware disk defrag programs like DefragMentor Lite (http://www.majorgeeks.com/DefragMentor_Lite_d4095.html)?

There are loads at Download.com (http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tag=srch&qt=defrag&tg=dl-20&search.x=0&search.y=0&search=+Go%21)

Maybe there is a problem with your Diskeeper install.

I have been using Diskeeper Lite for 3 years without any problems and I have installed it on at least 30 other systems that I have built and sold, again without any problems until about a month ago when I had the same problem on a friends computer that I maintain. Do you use the defrag program that you recommend I try?

Had the same trouble as happyrck, with Diskeeper Lite.I have two 100 gb hard drives. One,the main one, with Windows XP,and my firewall,anti-virus software, adaware, etc,on it,and my "reserve" drive, with my music, jpgs, and a host of media files. At the end of it's "run",Diskeeper always said, something such as "and now you have 98% less fragmented files".If I was lucky.I put it down to hidden code from Redmond, which "spoilt" non-MS software :D but I can't prove it,conspiracy theorist that I am.I am now using the software that Ben suggested.Much better.

Sorry Bill,was only joking...

Thanks for the replies. I will download and install the "new" defragger.
Again thanks
