I sent in a payment to my lender and it was returned. I am 2 payments behind and have expalined the reason to them which was my wife was out of work for several weeks. We can make our payments but catching up is very hard. Here is the response from the lender when I seen that the check had not cleared the bank. They were asking me to catch up the note in 30 days which was a total of 3,500 dollars. I sent them one payment plus late fees and this was there response

(Good Evening Mr. Webb

I received your email regarding payment you sent in and this was actually returned to you by Management as it was not sufficient. Please contact our office directly to discuss possible resolution )

I thought they could not refuse payments. Am I wrong?

Thank You Jerry Webb

Yes, they can refuse your payment.
You would do well to contact them by phone, noting the persons name that you speak with, and making arrangements formally to get caught up.
Once dates and amounts are agree upon, stick to that agreement. They will be less likely to renegotiate later if you default again, so be certain you can meet your obligation.

Captain Rich is correct. Try working on meeting a plan that is suitable for both parties, on what they expect in payment.

Where did you get the idea they couldn't refuse a payment. If you are in arrears, they certainly can refuse to accept a payment that does not bring the account up to date.

So you need to keep the lines of communication open with the lender and work out an agreement.

Yes, once you are in default of a loan, they can require that entire loan be paid, ( call in the loan) or require full payment and if not paid, foreclose.

So you need to save that money back, ( don't spend it) and call them and work out a payment plan with them
