I had unprotected on the 12 of December 2007. I've been having a few symptoms of being pregnant, but when I took to a home pregnancy test the both were negative. Was it still to early to take them for them to detect it, or could there be something wrong in my body?:(

It was too early to take the test. You need to wait until you miss your period prior to testing.

You see, there is this nasty little hormone us women have called Estrogen. It is responsible for headaches, nausea/vomiting, breast tenderness, bloating, cramping, etc. All of these symptoms can be present in the premenstrual period as well as in the pregnancy state.

Then we have a hormone who is our friend. It's called Progesterone. It comes in and gets rid of all of these nasty little symptoms we have. It also is present with our monthly cycles as well as pregancy.

Now, we have another hormone called hCG, a/k/a human chorionic gonadotropin. It is present in our bodies ONLY with pregnancy as it is the fertilized ovum that releases this hormone. It takes a while for this hormone to be high enough in our system to be able to be detected by any pregnancy test, whether it be a urine or blood test.

While many people will tell you that you can test as early as 7 days before your period, it is possible with some, but there is a higher rate of a false negative if you test that early. It is recommended that you test after you miss your period. Whether it be that week, a week later, or 2 weeks later. The longer you wait, the better chance you have of getting an accurate test result.

So, in answer to your question, you most likely tested too early.
