I have an American Standard one-piece low boy elongated toilet that was installed originally in 1956. About 6 months ago I replaced the flapper. It bounced a little so I glued a penney to it and until recently it has worked fine. Now it bounces ( rapidly ) and keeps the water running as it won't fill. If I hold it down manually for a few seconds, it will stop chattering and fill. Any ideas? Thanks, jim

Jim, happen to live in northern Illinois? I never recommend modifiying a flapper as you have. Got to give you credit for ingenuity though. Some flapper are heavier than others so I would recommend getting another flapper down at ACE and trying again. Feel the edge of the white plastic seat the flapper rests on and check it for burrs or nicks.

Most of my deceased relatives are from Pekin, Illinois, but only having visited there is the extent of my northern exposure. I'm a Floridian. Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a try and see if it works. Once seated, it doesn't seem to leak at all. It's just too light for a time. Again, thanks... jim

Knew a Jim Moorehouse from Harvard, Illinois. When the flapper falls into place them must be some slack in the chain, let it hang with a slight arc to it, definitely not taut.
