This is my first winter in a new home... furnace is a Carrier Weathermaker 8000 58WAV from 1993. A couple of days ago my ignitor went bad, I bought a new ignitor for this model but to my surprise when I opened the unit I found that the bad ignitor (which was not the same as the correct replacement) was not installed correctly and "rigged" to work with the burners. I also found inside the unit the mounting bracket for the correct ignitor. The problem is I don't know exactly how the bracket/ignitor fits in with the unit. Does anybody have any photos or diagrams of how the bracket ignitor is supposed to look correctly mounted? I'd like to return my furnace to "normal". Thanks.

If it's that new,, a warranty should take care of you,, who installed the unit,, call them and ask some questions,,

Here you go. Read this then look for the pic of the ignitor location. Someone did not have the correct ignitor and put a universal one in your furnace.
