On my Moen 87500A (the number on the back of the faucet), when you press the spray nozzle, the water continues to come out of the faucet and the spray is very weak. I suspect the diverter valve is not working.

Do I need to replace the cartridge?

No, only the diverter. It should be inside the spout.
