Does anyone know why it sounds like my walls are breathing? It is very consistent and on going. I think it has gotten worse since winter. That's all I know. Thanks

Is it possible that wind is causing the problem? How long have you lived at the location?
I am wondering about your heating system, and if there might be air coming through the walls as it is being pulled into the furnace?
Is it one area, or many? What type of heat do you have? Are your walls insulated?
Sorry for so many questions, but it would possibly help to know. When I try to imagine the sound, I think of air movement, but would you describe it as inhale and exhale, or just one constant type of air sucking type of noise?
How old is your home?

Excellent answer and ideas above!
I just want to ask, is this a single family dwelling or an apartment house of some kind? By the way, I live in a big, old house. I keep a fan on at a low speed in the basement most of the time in order to keep the air moving around down there. I can hear it all the way up to the second floor. It makes me think the furnace is running when it isn't. The vibration/noise from the fan in the basement, although subtle, is something that can be felt and heard throughout the entire house.

Just one more thing. What are the materials out of which your house is made? Wood? Brick? Depending on where you live, maybe something else?
