It is my understanding that you can file in NJ, where you reside, and get a divorce, only; the NJ court will not have jurisdiction to decide child custody issues, child support, division of property, payment of debts, or alimony.

I need to file for divorce. Left my husband, under duress ( he was threatening) he remains in Cal. I am in Texas. No kids together, no property... Only a few bits of furniture to claim. He, however, accrewed debts during the time I have been gone (June 2011-March 2012). Where do I stand. Can I go to the courts in Texas to fill out paperwork and serve him ( by mailing the papers?)
