My best friend lives in Britain and is a British citizen. I live in America... he comes to visit me frequently on a holiday 3 months at a time visa free... which he is allowed to do by law. My question is... he wants to buy a house here in America for me to live in... Can he legally buy a house (no mortgage) here and is there lots of "red tape" to do this?

He can buy and own a house or condo, etc. but it has nothing to do with his legal status. He will be able to enter US on visa waiver program for 90 days, if he violates this rule, he would be barred from entering to US again.
