At what age does a puppy need a proper kennel with a bed in it>?
Because I'm using a normal dog bed I purchased from the local pet store with some blankets and a toy
I leave it to sleep and play on my veranda like that and at night I put the bed in a box where it can deposit left overs... and sleep
I'm hoping to toilet train it later on because my mum doesn't like the smell of dog poop all over the floor and the pee stains. So yeah

We usually get our puppies at 7 weeks. We start them in the crate from the first night. Your questions are the ones every new puppy owner needs answered. Again what you need is in the sticky.

Are you leaving your puppy outside at night? How old is your puppy and what type of a puppy is it large breed or small breed?

It's a small maltese x pomeranian
yeah outside because my mum doesn't like the smell and stuff
but it's like right outside next to the door next to the kitchen and dining tableso it's always watched
and it has a lot of space to run around, pee and lol I'm watching it now and it's trying to climb out of the area

Koreanb... your dog needs to be inside with people. How are you ever going to train it if it is outside on a porch most of the time? I also worry about it being too cold. Small dogs with little muscle mass have a harder time keeping warm.
Eventually it may be able to climb over the blocked in portion and escape.
I have even heard of Eagles and Hawks flying over and carrying off little ones.

Your puppy needs to be in the house for you to be able to toilet train it. You have to be able to see it and pick it up take it outside before it understands that it is not allowed to just go potty anywhere.please get your mother some reading material so that she understands that this puppy needs human contact and that it needs to be with humans. Not alone on a porch.

While I agree with much of what bushg said, this may not be the right time to push to bring it inside. Take some time to read through the sticky. One of the most important things now is to give it room to eliminate away from where it is sleeping. Many breeders leave the mother and puppies shut up were the puppies have to live in their filth. Housebreaking starts the day the puppy is born when the mother carries it away from the others and licks it until it eliminates. She then carries it back and does the next. If the mother doesn't have room to do that, the puppies don't learn to keep themselves clean.

Puppies that are outside and given room to keep themselves clean, are easy to housebreak when brought in later. One of the easiest puppies I ever had to housebreak was one that lived outside until we got him at about 4-5 months. Puppies crammed in their own filth can be very difficult.

It will be easier to convince your Mum to let her come in later when she sees what a clean little thing it is.
